Pride & Prejudice: The 200th Anniversary

Today the literary world is celebrating.  They're taking a moment or two to dust off the book covers of one of the greatest novels in English Literature.

Today Pride and Prejudice turns 200.

A true classic in literature, Jane Austen continues to inspire and move her readers, two centuries after Pride and Prejudice's original publication.  Written between 1796 and 1797 under the working title First Impressions, Austen weaves a world engrossed in the themes of class, money and marriage.  Though society has changed and cultures have evolved, the very core of the book remains an ever present relatable topic - the continual search for self.

I can't help but admit to having my own love affair with this book, currently owning seven copies (and counting).  My vision of Mr. Darcy is what every man should strive to be and how every man should express his love to a woman:
"In vain have I struggled.  It will not do.  My feelings will not be repressed.  You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."
No doubt Pride and Prejudice will continue to inspire for generations to come, as that is the very nature of classics.  Just as I will continue to add copies to my collection.
