Tonight the City was Ours

A summer storm had come and gone.  All that remained as reminders of the storm were damp ferns and reflective puddles.  The heat from the afternoon had dissipated.  The leaves rustled, shaking off the last of the rain drops.  We strolled down a back alley listening to distant live music; a concert was going on somewhere in the city.

We stopped for ice cream.  For dinner.

We talked about our childhoods.  We reminisced.   We sat on swings and kicked ourselves into the air just to feel the breeze.

We laughed.  We startled the neighborhood cats.  We cherished the night.

At the start of this year, I promised to take more days like this.  I'm glad I did.  But even more than that, I'm glad to share them with person next to me.  What are life's greatest moments worth if they can't be shared with the one you love.

Tonight was one of those perfect nights.  The city was ours.  I snapped photos, if only to remind me of these moments.
