Thirty-four Percent

A few months back I desperately needed something to read, and diving into Pride & Prejudice again was a last resort.  There sat my Kindle, just waiting for a new download.  Now, I'm certainly an advocate for reading best sellers and new releases, but there is stingy side to me.  When I can snatch a book for under $10 or $5 for that matter, I'm all over that.  Yes.  Like white on rice.  Clearly so much so that I would use that phrase, a phrase that I still really don't quite get.

Anyway....so there I was looking for a steal and I found one.  Scotland circa 1740.  I delved into the book with all enthusiasm.  Two weeks later I was still reading.  Another week passed.  Still reading.  And then another week.  At this point, I was beginning to get suspicious.  Though I was thoroughly enjoying the book, I was surprised that I wasn't finished yet.  The thing about the Kindle is that there are no page numbers.  E-books don't translate literally into the same amount of pages as say, a hard-back book.  It does, however, give you a percentage.  At three weeks, I was at 34%.  34%??!!  I posed the situation to Jason, who cracked out his laptop and began researching the book.  Not five minutes later, he found it.  The book was OVER A THOUSAND PAGES.  Then came the worse news.

It was an eight book series.

And I had started at book two.

In two sentences, that sums up my karma.
