Another Year to be Thankful For

There was the year that the turkey didn't thaw out.  When we placed it in the tub and hoped it would be ready to cook.  There was the year I nearly sliced my thumb off while dicing up celery.  There was the year Shayna was in charge of the mashed potatoes.  Despite all her efforts, the potatoes didn't cook long enough and refused to mash.  We quietly whipped up a batch of instant garlic potatoes, put them on the table and everyone complimented Shayna on how good they tasted.

Every year there is a story.  One retold at EVERY holiday gathering.

This year it was the wine bottle, placed in the freezer to chill.  Hours later, we all heard a crack.  Thinking it was just the ice maker, Shayna opened the freezer door to double check.  Upon opening, she instead found that the wine bottle had shattered - the wine itself was completely frozen.  This year there would be no wine with dinner (we managed with blackberry brandy instead).

There would, however, be A LOT of food.

If they gave out awards, my family would get one for eating.  We're really good at eating.

As we were all together, we had to take time for some portraits.  I'll never pass up the opportunity to photograph my own family.  I mean, look at how cute they are!

They indulge me with following along with my directions.  Or at least Shayna follows direction.  Josh on the other hand...

Look at these two hamming it up for the camera.  Oh, go on!

Finally - point, focus, click, run.  Another family portrait in the books.
