I've never thrown an event. Never planned a party. I can't say I've even drafted up invitations of any kind. No birthday party, superbowl party. Nada. So why not plan one of the most import days of our lives? Yes, I think our wedding would be a good guinea pig to test my event planning skills. Let me tell you, attending weddings and/or photographing them in no way prepares you for the realization of just how much work it takes to pull one off. And did I forget to mention the details! No one told me there would be so many of them!
Because of the small size and intimacy of our wedding, we're having it at our house and doing most of the work ourselves. I'm a regular ol' DIY kinda girl. As we were discussing the layout of the yard I realized that we still didn't have any type of focal point for the ceremony. Jason simply stated "I'll build something." Insert jaw drop. He really is the best. I googled pictures of what I wanted and forwarded them onto him. I sort of assumed we were on the same page. I may need to stress that I assumed. On the way to lunch today he briefly said to me, "I'm going to work on the trellis this weekend. I'm thinking roughly 8 ft tall x 12 ft wide." At that point I believe my voice hit that high frequency that it should never get to. To put it into perspective, fitting 30 people into our yard would make it feel crowded. So a 12ft wide trellis? Umm....where's that going to go? He continued to reassure me, "I've got it all figured out. We need to make sure the aspect ratio is correct."
I'm marrying an engineer and could very well be the first bride to ever have her wedding venue drawn out in AutoCAD by the groom.
