Maybe We Should Have Turned Back Sooner

We're over achievers.  Clearly.  When we decided to take up bike riding in our latest scheme to get in shape (don't even ask what the other attempts were...), we committed to it.  We've gone riding nearly every weeknight and have gone on longer rides on the weekends.  Today was no exception.

Let me preface this with, we decided to take up bike riding in the wrong season.  It's not just hot out, it's the type of heat that a cactus would shrivel up in.  Triple digit heat.  So why not go out at one in the afternoon for a long bike ride?  We drove out to the islands and headed down a bike path along the marsh.  About four miles down the path we started steering toward every tiny patch of shade we could find.  At five miles we just couldn't go further.  That's the tricky part about riding.  For every mile you ride out, you have to ride back.

We turned around and headed back.  Shade became our incentive to keep going forward.  We stopped for water and shot some pictures.  I even began negotiating tactics.  I work much better on a reward system. At nine miles in, I started asking for rewards.  I was getting desperate and our truck wasn't getting any closer.
I'm pretty sure Jason owes me big after having made it all ten miles...
