We drove home through the pouring rain. Barely able to see the road in front of us we sped along at 20 mph. Thunder crashed and the lighting struck not 40 feet from us. Thankfully Jason could see the road better than I could and didn't jump with every crack of thunder as I did. We turned down our street with the headlights flashing ahead of us and caught the edges of numerous branches covering the street. Well more like limbs. Big limbs.
Our attempt to make it down the road was rather unsuccessful. We pulled the truck over and Jason hauled one of the limbs out of the road so we could keep moving along. Soaking wet, he got back in the truck and we started our trek further down the road. Just before getting to our house another huge branch blocked the road. All I could think was I hope it hasn't hit Gumby! That would have been my kind of karma. Thankfully Gumby was unharmed! I'd like to say that we pulled it out of the road. My awesome muscles successfully yanked it off to the curb. I wish. I pulled. I yanked. But it wouldn't move. We got help. No luck. That branch was determined to stay in the middle of the road. We showed it who's boss. That's right. We drove around it. So there.
Moments later, we heard a crack of the thunder and the power went out in the neighborhood. The tree fought back.
After spending the day with my nephews and the ordeal of trying to get home, we were exhausted. This morning amounted to a complete lack of productivity. To put it more accurately, the morning was an EPIC FAIL in productivity. With a list of things that I wanted to get down, the day had thus far resulted in none of those getting done. So, determined to make progress on that list we headed out in the yard and started collecting the debris from last night's storm. It was hot. And humid. Did I mention it was hot? We cleaned up the front yard and collapsed inside. Jason asked me how we were doing on our to-do list. I replied, AWESOME.
The rest of the list had just gone out the window. I think being lazy was much more productive.
