It's 80 degrees out and a warm breeze is blowing. Southern Georgia is an example of perfection today. Sitting out on my porch, doors wide open, I'm editing the photos of a shoot I had yesterday. Although I'm trying to focus on the editing work ahead of me, I can't keep my mind from drifting as a milestone is rapidly approaching.
The 40,000th image.
I bought my current camera just over two and a half years ago. Every photo taken with this camera has a number. And every 10,000 photos, the number counter rolls over and starts again at 1. Today I took photo 9,349. For the third time. To date, that's 39,349 images. In two and half years. To be scientific about it, that's 43 images a day. I take my camera with me every where. Literally. Its in my purse. And a spare lens just in case. Five memory cards minimum and an extra battery.
39,349.
I've traveled across the country. And back again. Documenting every step. Every state. I can't help but think of where the next 10,000 images will take me. Maybe they'll take me into new lives, new friendships, new clients. This fall they'll take me to Europe.
Right now I'll just work toward 40,000 and let the rest take care of itself.
