With the end of the holiday season and the onslaught of cold weather, my weekend shoots have slowed down considerably. Being cooped up inside however, has given me the chance to work on a number of projects that I've been delaying. Of most importance is the update to my website.
About a year and a half ago I decided it was time to define a brand and create a website that was a reflection of that brand. I opted for a very clean look. And while this was leaps and bounds ahead of my previous website and brand, I'm at the point where I want to take that further. I want a site that is more reflective of who I am. I firmly believe that as a photographer you need to sell yourself as much as you sell your work. It's a package deal.
So in the past few months I've been steadily working on a variety of designs to work into my site. Now keep in mind how little I know about html and web design. I have visions of how I'd like to see things work and flow, but the reality is that I have no idea if any of it possible.
Cue the dramatic music. In walks Jason. My java script, html, code writing hero.
I presented him with my visions of Mount Everest, I want this to move, and this to shift. Can I make this move this way? Or have it enter the screen from this angle? How about layers? Can I do those? Oh and I definitely want roll over changes. I was getting too excited for my own good, thinking of all the possibilities. Yet when I had exhausted my never-ending list of wants, he simply looked at me and replied, we can do that.
And then proceeded to open Notepad.
Yes, notepad.
I was anticipating a highly technological text generating software to be opened in front of me. Not a text document. Needless to say, my mouth dropped. You're writing my website in Notepad!!
How one person can possess the knowledge to write a website from scratch is beyond me. Clearly I still have yet to move past my shock.
